The month of November has several important birthdays in our family.  And of course there is that special holiday – Thanksgiving!  I have enjoyed participating with others in past years as we share our 30 days of thankfulness.  This year, I have a different way to share – this blog!

Yesterday, November 5th, was the day my Uncle Pat was born many years ago.  Uncle Pat was my Grandaddy’s youngest sibling and he just happened to be the uncle that lived only one mile down that dirt road near the farm of my childhood adventures.  Uncle Pat and Aunt Nell had two children that were just a few years older than me and they were like a brother and sister to me growing up.  Uncle Pat and Aunt Nell were a second set of grandparents to me and I cherish the many memories I have from the many days at their home.  Uncle Pat sang in the church choir and every time I sing or hear “How Great Though Art”, I can hear his voice joining in with the music.

Uncle Pat gave me the great honor of walking me down the aisle at my wedding.  Grandaddy was already in the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and just didn’t feel that he was able to do so.  It was a privilege to walk into that church on Uncle Pat’s arm as I walked nervously to the altar to marry my sweetie. I am thankful that he was willing to do so, despite battling a horrible case of shingles in the weeks just prior to my big day. I am thankful for the example he and Aunt Nell showed me with their marriage.  And if you look back at my past blogs, those are Aunt Nell’s hands holding my sweet granddaughter’s hands in the post “Hands That Hold”.  The hands of support from Uncle Pat on my special day hold a special place in my heart.

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”  Psalm 107:1
