It’s playoff time for my beloved Atlanta Braves. This past Sunday, my husband and I were able to be in attendance as the Braves swept the Mets to move into first place in their division – over their big rival, the New York Mets. I love that they have done well since that heartbreaking loss in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series against the Minnesota Twins. They have since won two World Series, the National League Pennant six times and been their division winner 20 times! That’s an amazing record. I cheer them on every year – win or lose!
But when I remember the heartbreak of that ten inning game in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series; I try to remember that every time WE won, the other team lost. I feel sure each of those teams also have fans that feel just as I did that late October night in 1991. I enjoy celebrating the big wins and the Championship Title as much as any fan does. And as much as I truly want to see them win that title again in the coming weeks, I hope I can remember the heartbreak the fans of the losing team will have. And if my beloved Braves don’t manage to win the title this year, I will look back and remember that they have an amazing record of pennants and division wins! (But I will certainly celebrate if they do win again!)
