Tomorrow, October 3, my husband and I will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.  In today’s world that’s a major accomplishment.   As we celebrate this anniversary, I look back at the many obstacles that were placed in our path over the years.  Many of these obstacles have been known to place a great strain on marriages, with many marriages unable to overcome them. But with God, patience with each other, and our love for each other, we beat the odds.

Over the last 40 years we have survived:

***The premature birth of triplets.***

***The death of one of our first son two weeks following this triplet birth***

***The stress of bringing home two very premature babies with lingering health concerns***

*** A cancer scare for me when a fast growing ovarian cyst was found and removed***

***A second difficult pregnancy that led to partial bed rest for six weeks***

***A mild heart attack at age 37 for my husband***

***By-pass surgery at age 39 for my husband***

***The death of my beloved Grandaddy the day after that by-pass surgery***

***The loss of both of my husband’s parents within three weeks of each other***

***A surprise miracle Bonus Baby at an advanced maternal age***

***The tough days of learning our son suffered from Childhood Onset Bi-Polar Disorder***

***The loss of my much loved Granny***

***My mom’s cancer diagnosis and nearly three years of treatment while living with us***

***The death of my mom just two weeks before Christmas***

***My husband’s retirement***

*** The onset of Covid and all that brought with it***

***A job change for me in the middle of the pandemic***

***A truly empty nest for the past two years***

Tomorrow we will celebrate.  We don’t know what adventures are yet to come; but whether good or bad, we will face them together with God right there to guide us!
